What to Do
We’re covering a lot of our personal favorites in the itinerary we’ve put together, but we’d never be able to fit in all of the amazing activities Cape Town has to offer. We’ve included some of the most notable below:
Table Mountain: This one is obvious. If you want to hike it, we recommend Platteklip Gorge, but there is no shame in taking the cable car.
Boulders Beach: The beach famous for the African penguins. They are very cute but don’t try to touch them unless you want to loose a finger!
Other beaches: If you’re pining for more beach time, try Llandudno, or Clifton (we recommend Clifton second).
Cape Point : Dramatic cliffs and ocean views at the tip of Africa. It’s remote on scenic, but watch out for the baboons
Robben Island: The island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years. It’s palpably charged with history, but definitely book this one ahead of time as they only run a few tours a day.
Kirstenbosch Gardens : Lush botanical gardens in the foothills of the Table Mountain Nature Reserve, this one is a favorite of The Bride (for obvious reasons)
Great White Cage Diving: If you’re feeling extra adventurous, Gaansbaai is an hour out of Cape Town and has one of the densest populations of Great White Sharks in the world. Call ahead to check the sightings because every now and again they move off to make room for the killer whales.
Markets: Cape Town has several amazing outdoor markets featuring delicious food, local crafts, and great vibes. Our favorites are:
Wednesday Night Market 16:00 - 21:00; Saturday 08:15 - 14:00; Sunday 09:00 - 14:00
Friday: 5pm – 9pm (Full Market); Saturday/Sunday: 9.30am – 4pm (Full Market)
Constantia: This is another amazing wine area, and the closest to Cape Town. Some of our favorite wineries here are:
Beau Constantia
Constantia Glen
Steenberg
Klein Constantia
Buitenverwachting
Franshoek and Stellenbosch Winelands: There are dozens of top tier wineries in Stellenboash and Franshoek which is by no coincidence the same area as Vrede en Lust, where we will be celebrating with you on January 14th. Some of our favorites below are definitely worth a quick visit while in the neighborhood
Tokara
Bartinney
Boschendal
Babylonstoren
Delaire Graff: (Also has a great spa!)
A great way to check out a lot of the wineries in the area is to take the Franschoek Wine Tram
